Take a deep breath – and play , a new mobile gaming app, has been designed to help players reduce their blood pressure through breathing.

Breathing Training, a new mobile gaming app, has been designed to help players reduce their blood pressure through breathing.

Developed by students from the Department of Computer Science at Thammasat University’s Faculty of Science and Technology, Breathing Training applies people’s breathing to control characters in the game.

Asst Prof Dr Nuttanont Hongwarittorrn, the faculty’s lecturer, noted that e-sport yields similar benefits to the brain as other brain-sharpening games such as chess or Go (the classic encircling strategy game) and if players play it suitably, it becomes useful for them in terms of analytical thinking, language learning, decision making and other skills. Breathing Training enables players to have quality breathing which allows them to conduct the direction and movement of characters on a smartphone.

The app enables players suffering with high blood pressure or stress to get their breathing at an appropriate level through two steps of playing; recording breathing rate and age in order to choose the game level that fits the player; and breathing to control the movement of characters to collect coins based on the game level.

Every time a mission is accomplished, the game will display the respiratory rate in a graph, comparing the breathing before and after, and it also shows if the player has the right breathing or not.

The game has now been improved to make the interface more attractive and user-friendly.
